A special meeting was held in on Saturday 19 March to elect the next president of Desjardins Group, a Canadian member of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation. The 256 Desjardins officers from Quebec and Ontario that make up the organization's Electoral College elected Guy Cormier (pictured) as Desjardins Group's new Chair of the Board, President and CEO. Cormier, currently Senior Vice-President, Cooperative Network and Personal Services, takes over from Monique F.

Representatives from the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) and the European Commission today signed a framework partnership agreement for a global development programme to benefit and advance the cooperative sector worldwide. The signing of the agreement took place in Brussels (Belgium). Three days of unmissable meetings for cooperative and mutual business leaders

The International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) today announced new statistics confirming the increasingly positive socio-economic impact of the global mutual and cooperative insurance industry. The publication of the latest ICMIF Global Mutual Market Share report confirms another year of strong financial performance for the mutual and cooperative insurance sector.

Mutual health and wellbeing provider Benenden, a UK member of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), has once again made it onto the prestigious 100 ‘Best Not-for-Profit Organizations’ to work for list as published in the UK newspaper “The Sunday Times”. Benenden was ranked at number 40 in this year’s Sunday Times list – moving up from 64th in 2015. The full Sunday Times ‘Best Companies’ List can be viewed here.

To mark International Women's Day 2016 the global cooperative sector has released a video message from International Co-operative Alliance President, Monique F Leroux (pictured), Chair of the Board, President and CEO of ICMIF member Desjardins Group. 

The launch at the end of 2015 of ICMIF’s first Global Manifesto Protecting Lives and Livelihoods marked a major step forward in ICMIF’s coordinated campaign to get the cooperative and mutual insurance model understood and supported worldwide.

Kathy Bardswick, President and CEO of The Co-operators (Canada), a member of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), is retiring at the end of 2016, after 14 years in the role.

"I have worked alongside the very best in the insurance industry and cooperative sector," says Kathy. "I am proud of what we have built together and so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to lead an organization that provides valuable financial security to Canadians and their communities."
